Biggest Country Music Fest Ever?

For the past five years Coachella has (arguably) been one of the best and most consistant rock festivals in the world…Now, the team behind Coachella – Los Angeles’ based Goldenvoice – are trying their luck by producing a massive country festival May 5 & 6 in Indio, CA. Will it work?

To their credit, the promoters of Stagecoach have locked up some of the biggest names in country music – Brooks & Dunn, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Sara Evans, Sugarland – a handful of legends like Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Chris Hillman (The Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers), Earl Scruggs, and The Flatlanders, and the cream of the alt-country crop – Neko Case, Drive By Truckers, Alejandro Escovedo, Old 97′s, Nickel Creek, and Raul Malo of the Mavericks. However big this announced line-up may be, country music fans (and alt-country fans for that matter) are notoriously fickle when its comes to their music and it remains to be seen how the worlds of old, alt, and mainstream will collide. I mean, when was the last time you saw a Drive By Trucker fan rocking out to Sara Evans? When was the last time you spoke with a Kenny Chesney fan who could name one Emmylou Harris song?

As for me, i’m going to follow Merle Haggard’s tried & true advice and just stay here and drink.
