2010: The Year In Sports

Hey everyone, this is Hal from Team Swagbucks here to review the year in sports. Even though I’m a Philly guy through and through, I’m going to do my best to remain neutral here.

To say 2010 was a crazy year in the 4 major sports would be an understatement. In three different major sports championship droughts were ended, while the NBA’s most storied rivalry added another dynamic chapter.

Things kicked off in earnest with the New Orleans Saints winning the Super Bowl in their franchises history against the Indianapolis Colts. The Saints, who had endured several difficult seasons (when they earned themselves the nickname The Aints), finally climbed the mountain, giving the Crescent City a celebration to rival Mardi Gras).

In Hockey the Chicago Blackhawks overcame almost 50 years of drought to win their first Stanley Cup since 1961 when they beat my Philadelphia Flyers (who had an INCREDIBLE run of their own) in 6 games.

In the NBA finals the Lakers came one series closer to evening their all-time finals record against the Boston Celtics with a 7-game win that saw Kobe Bryant winning his fifth ring in style.

In baseball, the Giants won their first World Series since 1954 by defeating the Texas Rangers, who were making their first ever World Series appearance. The Giants won it with pitching and a ragtag group of players reminiscent of the 2004 Red Sox, another team that broke a dry spell. With the flurry of big time activity taking place in the offseason

With the 2010-2011 season in full swing, there are a lot of possiblities for repeats and first timers to win. I’m looking forward to how it all plays out. What was your ultimate sports moment of 2010?
