Chocolately Goodness

There comes this point when 85 degree days in December easily disguise the fact that Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and any other major gift giving holiday that gets lumped into the title “holidays” is less than three weeks away; then again, that’s half the appeal of living in Los Angeles. Like I said before, I’d rather just share a meal than go through this elaborate exchange of gifts. Well, to change my tune, I was informed on Dec.13 that it was National Hot Cocoa Day!!

You’d think it would bum me out learning on a sunshiny afternoon that I was supposed to be celebrating hot cocoa. However, Xoelle’s blog on Mexican Hot Cocoa inspired me. Learning that not only was there a new way to spice up my hot cocoa but that there was a food holiday to celebrate 365 days a year had me grinning from ear to ear. I finally have a unique and economical gift that will carry meaning and lead to me sharing more meals with friends and family.

I am going to follow Xoelle’s gifting idea and homemade packaging as depicted in her blog but I am going to add something: a mini flip calendar that lists all 365 food holidays and on the back page I will create a homemade coupon good for one meal spent at a restaurant of the recipient’s choice to celebrate their favorite food holiday in proper festive tradition!

Plus, to make things simple I can pick up a great majority of the supplies using the Shop&Earn . Any necessary art supplies for this project can be found at, nearly any restaurant gift card at and a great deal of the hot cocoa mix ingredients are available at When using the Shop&Earn at Swagbucks you earn 2 SB for every $1 spent, stocking me up of Swag Bucks for 2011. Pretty easy and it took the “bah-humbug!” out of my step. Thanks Xoelle!
