Ask The Swag Gal – May 18, 2011
This week’s question comes from a user looking for that perfect summer getaway:
“Where are some good vacation spots for the summer in the United States?”
This is a great question, and I’m sure we have many other Swaggernauts who are interested in finding out some great vacation spots, too! As much as I love vacations, I wouldn’t consider myself a travel connoisseur, so I’m resorting to some research that I’ve done online.
Here at Swagbucks, we like our users to get the most bang for their buck, and that’s how I feel about vacations. I wanted to find some ideal spots that were not only great for that much needed R&R, but were also affordable and valuable. There are many places that I came across in my research that I haven’t personally traveled to, but peaked my interest. Some of these include Nashville, Tennessee, Las Vegas, Nevada, New Orleans, Louisiana, Charleston, South Carolina, and Austin Texas. But, I wanted to highlight my favorite destinations with further detail.
Let’s start with the obvious: Los Angeles, California
-If you haven’t been to LA, yet, it’s time to fix that! Soak up the sun at the beach, and then ride the giant ferris wheel on the Santa Monica Pier. Enjoy a stroll down the very unique Venice boardwalk, measure your hands and feet against the hand prints and footprints of Hollywood’s legendary actors on Hollywood Boulevard, take that famous picture with the Hollywood sign behind you, and don’t be surprised if you run into a few celebrities along the way. The LA Metro bus stops at most of the tourist attractions, and a day pass is just $5.
-Although Chicago is great all year round, it’s even better in the summertime. “Head to Millennium Park, a beautiful landscape sandwiched between skyscrapers and Lake Michigan. Take a blanket and sit on the huge lawn and enjoy many of the free concerts offered in the summer. Walk around and enjoy the outdoor art sculptures, including Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor, a 110-ton elliptical sculpture with a seamless series of highly polished stainless steel plates that reflect Chicago’s skyline.” (AdminSecret.com)
Lahaina, Maui (Hawaii)
-Maui has a great atmosphere that combines the laid-back surfer lifestyle with all of the modern amenities. Visit the beach to swim and snorkel in the crystal clear water, awe at close encounters with sharks and stingrays, and indulge yourself in their natural, fresh fruit. “Shake a papaya or coconut tree at a local beach park and you’ve practically got lunch, for free!” (AdminSecret.com)
-I used to live in Miami, and it’s one of my favorite cities! You just can’t beat the beautiful landscapes, the warm ocean, and the exciting nightlife. Enjoy shopping and lunch on Lincoln Road, feel the artistic culture at the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Vizcaya Museum, take the kids to the Miami Seaquarium, and enjoy a fun night out at one of the famous venues, Mansion.
New York, New York
-Most of my family lives in New York, so I have been to New York more times than I can count. If you haven’t been to this city yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. New York City is one of those places that I truly feel everyone in the world needs to visit. Filled with dozens of different cultures, you are sure to see something new every time you visit. Feel the excitement as you walk around Times Square, take a tour to the top of the Empire State Building, sing along at a Broadway musical, see your favorite artist’s works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and so much more!
We live in a truly beautiful world and a beautiful country. There is something new to discover everyday, as well as something to learn. Use your vacations to experience people and places that you’ve never experienced before.
I hope these suggestions were to your liking, but if not, I’d like to now open it up to our Swaggernauts. What is YOUR favorite vacation spot?
