Music Monday: The Beach Boys
Brian Wilson is one of the mad geniuses of modern music, and his creative competition with Lennon & McCartney reached its peak 45 years ago today when the album Pet Sounds was released. Pet Sounds, with its experimental soundscapes, unorthodox recording methods and lyrical explorations inspired the Beatles to what would become their greatest album (arguably), Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Paul McCartney has gone on record saying ” “It was Pet Sounds that blew me out of the water… I love the album so much. I’ve just bought my kids each a copy of it for their education in life – I figure no one is educated musically ‘til they’ve heard that album.”
