Ask The Swag Gal – June 15, 2011

Today’s question is one that I’ve been getting quite frequently the past few weeks.  Our users want to know how to keep the kids busy this Summer…

Summer is just about here and school is just about out.  Have you figured out how you’re going to keep the kids busy during Summer vacation?  If not, don’t worry – Thanks to eHow Family, I found a great article with lots of perfect ideas and suggestions that the kids are bound to love!

Get a Library Card

-Don’t take your local library for granted.  Most libraries have free summer programs and workshops that are great for kids.  Make a weekly trip to the library and stock up on books and videos.  The best part about libraries is that it’s all free! (If you return your books on time!)

Go Swimming

Swimming is a great summer activity for the kids because it keeps them busy, keeps them cool, and keeps them active.  Plus – they love it!  If you don’t have a pool in your backyard, or don’t know anyone with a pool, check out your city’s website to find the closest community pool.

If you didn’t already know, we have some awesome pool toys in the Swag Store including water guns, beach balls, arm floaties, inflatable swim rings, inflatable swim rafts, and more!

Volunteer

Volunteering is a great thing to do over the summer.  There are likely many areas around your community that need and would love help.  If your child is old enough, have him/her devote a few hours a week to volunteering at the local library, soup kitchen, hospital, etc.  If you have time to spare, or your children aren’t old enough, make it a family activity.

Arts and Crafts

One of my favorite [summer] activities is arts and crafts.  Whether it’s simply drawing on the driveway in sidewalk chalk or constructing a bird house out in the back, arts and crafts are a great way to keep the kids busy as well as entertained.

Sports Programs

Check out the local schools, community center, and your city’s websites to see what sports programs are going on this summer.  Sign your kids up for their favorite sport that they’ll love and that will keep them active.  Don’t forget to lather them up in sunscreen first, though!

Lemonade Stand

I used to love having lemonade stands as a kid.  Not only is it so much fun, but it teaches the kids about business, money, expenses, and profits.
