Ask the Swag Gal – November 2, 2011

Today’s question comes from a Swaggernaut preparing for the season of gift giving:

“Like many Swagbucks users, I am always in a financial bind (especially around the holidays). Swagbucks has helped me to afford presents for my immediate family, but maybe you can help me with some inexpensive and creative present ideas for people around the office and extended family members?”

A gift does not have to be extravagant and expensive to make it meaningful.  Sometimes the simplest gifts mean the most.  I’ve compiled a collection of ideas that I think would all be perfect for showing the people in your lives how much you care.

Frame a picture – Like the saying goes, a picture is worth 1,000 words.  Find a nice picture of you and your recipient and buy a matching frame.  Write a personal note on the back of the picture or the frame that expresses how much he/she means to you.  Wrap it up and put a bow on it!

Offer your time – Time is money.  Write a nice card, and inside include a special coupon that’s good for X number of hours.  These hours can be spent helping someone with their gardening, looking after their kids, running some errands for him/her, or anything you think that your recipient will appreciate.

Family Recipes – Everyone has their secret family recipes that are passed down from generation to generation.  In my family, it’s the famous chicken soup – yum!  For the holidays, gather some of your family’s favorite recipes and put them all together to make a Family Cookbook.  On each recipe, include either a picture of the family eating it or a memory that you have that corresponds with that meal.

Scrapbook – Scrapbooks make a great gift, because they can be personalized and made specifically for that special someone.  Include pictures, stories, and souvenirs that bring back good memories of you together.  Each page can be dedicated to another reason why this person means so much to you.

Mix”tape” – Compile a list of songs that have meaning in you and your recipient’s relationship.  Include songs that remind you of memories together, have lyrics that describe your lives, or even just have song titles that relate to you.  Put them all on a CD and wrap it up.

In addition to these ideas, we also have some great gift items in the Swag Store.

Not sure what your coworkers might like?  Snag a gift card for as little as 99 Swag Bucks, and let them pick out their own gift.

Looking for gifts for the ladies?  We have some beautiful jewelry pieces available for as little as 199 Swag Bucks.  Add some frosting to their lives.

I hope these suggestions have helped inspire you in your gift giving this holiday season.  I am now going to open it up to our Swaggernauts.  What’s a gift that you’ve either received or given that is inexpensive, yet meaningful?  Share your stories in the comments section of this post.
