Happy Australia Day!

Oh Crikey – it’s Australia Day!  Australia Day is the official national day of Australia.  Today commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.  “It is presently an official public holiday in every state and territory of Australia and is marked by the presentation of the Australian of the Year Awards on Australia Day Eve, announcement of the Honours List for the Order of Australia and addresses from the Governor-General and Prime Minister.  With community festivals, concerts and citizenship ceremonies the day is celebrated in large and small communities and cities around the nation.  Australia Day has become the biggest annual civic event in Australia” (National Australia Day Council Annual Report).

In honor of Australia Day, we have introduced some brand new products to the Swag Store.  You can now snag some hit tunes by one of my favorite Australian artists, Keith Urban.  Pick up any song off of his “Get Closer” Deluxe Album for just 199 Swag Bucks, or snag the entire album for just 1,799 Swag Bucks.  You can also snag his hit single, “Somebody Like You,” for just 129 Swag Bucks.  We’ve also added the very fitting film, Australia – a 2008 epic historical romance film directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.  Get your copy for just 1,499 Swag Bucks!

In addition to these exciting new items, we’ve also just introduced two brand new games to Swagbucks.  Now feel free to explore Australia in our Australian Cities game and guide your boomerang to collect coins in Boomerpop.  Which one do you like the best?  What’s your high score?

And now, I believe it’s time for an Australian-themed poem…

Today is Australia Day

and boy do I feel great

I finally get to use the phrases

“Crikey” and “G’day Mate!”

Wave the Australian Flag

drink some Australian Lift

Throwback a Bundaberg Ginger Beer

Give Vegemite as a Gift

Let us honor Nicole Kidman

and Keith Urban, her beau

three cheers for Hugh Jackman

let us toast to Russell Crowe

So here’s to Crocodile Dundee

and toilets flushing the other way

To everybody celebrating

Happy Australia Day!
