Welcome To Spirit Week

Happy Monday, Swaggernauts.  Welcome to the first day of Swagbucks Spirit Week!  As we hinted to you on Friday, every day this week we’ll be celebrating a different holiday.  Each day will be filled with lots of fun and great surprises.  We’re starting off the excitement by honoring the Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year, which marks the end of the Winter season, is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays.  Typically, families will thoroughly clean out their house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes of making way for incoming good luck.  According to legends, the beginning of Chinese New Year started with the fight against a mythical beast called the Nian.  ”Nian would come on the first day of New Year to eat livestock, crops, and even villagers, especially children.  To protect themselves, the villagers would put food in front of their doors at the beginning of every year.  It was believed that after the Nian ate the food they prepared, it wouldn’t attack any more people.  One time, people saw that the Nian was scared away by a little child wearing red.  The villagers then understood that the Nian was afraid of the color red.  Hence, every time when the New Year was about to come, the villagers would hang red lanterns and red spring scrolls on windows and doors.  People also used firecrackers to frighten away the Nian.  From then on, Nian never came to the village again.  The Nian was eventually captured by Hongjun Laozu, an ancient Taoist monk.  The Nian became Hongjun Laozu’s mount” (theholidayspot.com).

In honor of Chinese New Year, we have introduced two new games to Swagbucks.  You can now feel free to play Mah Jong Solitaire, where you remove matching tiles from the screen, with the objective of eventually removing all of the tiles.  You’ll soon discover that Mah Jong Solitaire is as much of an experience as it is a game.  You now can also enjoy Wealth and Treasure, a Chinese paper doll game where you challenge the levels with your jumping control.  Have fun!

In addition to new games, we’ve updated our Swag Store with items to help you celebrate the Chinese New Year.  You can now snag a beautiful Wooden Oriental Bookmark to help you keep your place as you read along with the Swagbucks Book Club.  Keep yourself fashionably cool with the Chinese Character Fan, which makes for the perfect party favor for your Chinese New Year celebration.  Pick up a Chinese New Year Zodiac Placemat to learn about the year you were born and what’s to come in years ahead.

To those observing, Happy New Year!  Enjoy the first day of Swagbucks Spirit Week!
