Hibernation Station

Before little Phil emerged from his burrow this morning, he had been hibernating for the past few months.  Typically, groundhogs hibernate from October to March or April.  In order to survive the cold winter, they are at their maximum weight shortly before they begin their hibernation.  Then those chubby little guys take cover until they feel it’s warm enough to emerge, or until we take them out on February 2nd.  Here’s a video that I found on SBTV that explains the routine taken by zoos when preparing their groundhogs for hibernation.

Hmm….I don’t think I’d mind getting a few months of sleep.  Who’s with me?
