Swagbucks Book Club – Discussion of Sarah’s Key

by Team Swagbucks on Fri, March 2nd, 2012 at 10:00 am

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Swagbucks Book Club.  Today we will be discussion the best-selling novel, Sarah’s Key, by Tatiana de Rosnay as well as announcing our next selection.

We had over 425 Book Club members vote last week.  It was a very tight race but in the end Tina Fey’s Bossypants came away the winner with 30% of the votes.  Bossypants is now available for the Kindle in the Swag Store for just 1699 Swag Bucks. You can also use Barnes & Noble eGift Cards or Amazon Gift Cards, as well as check your local library.  If you want to know more about Bossypants you can check out this review.  I hope you will join in on the discussion of this title on Friday, March 30th at 10am Pacific Time.

Today’s discussion is about Sarah’s Key.  Here is a brief description:

Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten-year-old girl, is taken with her parents by the French police as they go door-to-door arresting Jewish families in the middle of the night.  Desperate to protect her younger brother, Sarah locks him in a bedroom cupboard — their secret hiding place — and promises to come back for him as soon as they are released.

Sixty Years Later: Sarah’s story intertwines with that of Julia Jarmond, an American journalist investigating the roundup.  In her research, Julia stumbles onto a trail of secrets that link her to Sarah, and to questions about her own romantic future.

I hope you enjoyed this thought-provoking read.  I will post discussion topics in the comments section.  Feel free to comment on my suggestions or pose your own thoughts.  Please also remember to click LIKE on comments you find helpful or thoughtful.  The two comments that receive the most likes will win a copy of our next book, Bossypants!

Also, I will be hooking up various people who contribute insightful comments with 25 Swag Bucks on Monday.  Feel free to stop by over the weekend to contribute to the conversation as you just might be 25 SBs richer come Monday.
