Exactly 30 years ago today, John Mellencamp reached number 1 on the US Singles Chart with this song.  This song was off of his album, American Fool, which also reached number 1 on the US Album chart the very same day.  According to Mellencamp, “Jack & Diane” was written about a relationship he had with a girl that lived near his hometown of Seymour, Indiana named Diane.  The single spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982, and, to date, is Mellencamp’s biggest hit single ever.  Here is “Jack & Diane.”
