Swagbucks Book Club – Books and Mortar
Today’s Swagbucks Book Club is dedicated to joy of the Book Store; without which, we would not exist. The experience of book buying has changed over the past 20 years; most notably in July 1995 when amazon.com sold its first book (The book was Fluid Concepts & Creative Analogies: Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of Thought). I love amazon for its ease of use, huge selection, competitive pricing and of course, amazing Amazon Gift Cards. But this week I want to focus on the brick and mortar book store.
If I were to draw out a timeline for important book store milestones in my life it would include my very first trip to a Borders Books in Beachwood, OH (a 45 minute drive from my home but so worth the trip!) in the late ’80s and discovering Powell’s Books in Portland, OR in October of 2001. Earlier this year Travel+Leisure Magazine put together a list of America’s Best Bookstores.
Today’s Discussion: What would your book store timeline look like? What are or were your favorite book stores and why? Please share in the comments below and include a link to the store if available so others an visit.
On Monday I will randomly choose 3 members who contribute to the discussion and award them with 25 Swag Bucks each!
Don’t forget that the June reading selection is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. We will be discussing this title on Friday June 28th so there is plenty of time to join us.
