“OK, I know what you’re thinking. Jazz?! Well, my friend – you clearly haven’t listened to Miles Davis‘ masterpiece “Kind Of Blue”.

I wasn’t always familiar with the album. In fact, I hated jazz music when I was a kid. But that changed in high-school during Mr. O’s 5th period chemistry class. Mr. O had this habit of playing music every day as the student’s filed into class. Most of the time nobody really paid attention to the music, it was mostly older stuff and we were all too wired from the sugary sodas we’d been drinking on our lunch break to really care.

But then one day as we stepped into the classroom, there was something unusual coming out of the boombox. It was instrumental, and, well… chill. Mr. O wasn’t even in the classroom and yet nobody said a word- we all just took our seats and listened. I didn’t know it at the time, but we were listening to the first cut off “Kind Of Blue” a song called “So What”. This was jazz, but it wasn’t like the jazz music I’d heard my parents listening to. Anyway, when Mr. O finally came into the classroom and pressed “stop” on the stereo, I know I wasn’t the only student who wished that he would of just let the tune keep playing.”
