Biggest Loser Follow-up

You may recall that yesterday I featured a poll on the blog about the next cast-off of The Biggest Loser. If you guys nailed it, we would've had a 2 Swag Buck code for 2 hours. The bad news is Swag Nation did not guess it right. The good news is, this poll will be returning weekly until the end of the show so you'll have more chances to guess correctly!

And, if you're any good at math or probability, you know that as more people get kicked off, it'll be easier to guess. So codes will be richer the more contestants there are. As it dwindles down until the finale, we'll still award codes but not as grand.

Based on how accurate Swag Nation is over the next few weeks until the finale, the finale Swag Code may be rich or...less rich.

KISS is Coming to Your Town!

Happy Wednesday everyone! I hope you are all ready to dig deep into the financial planning of a college student. Oh, the memories!!

Today's question was sent in from ckswagbucks, in Baltimore, MD:

As a college gal, I find myself having trouble controlling my finances. Can you give me some tips on budgeting?

This is a question I wish I would have asked early on in my college life. The benefits of establishing a solid budget early on are far more important than the GPA you will carry. Everyone is so wrapped up in the lifestyle, classes, parties, and independence they forget this is important. The money left over from your student loans is a great way to start the budgeting plan.

1. The number one tip I have for you is stop spending your money on fast food. To this day, I still fall prey to my morning Starbucks run or a quick lunch on the go. Early classes and late night study sessions don’t leave much time to cook. Try planning your meals out and making them on a Sunday. Freeze them and they are ready to go when you need them.

For an entire week keep track of you’re spending, if you see a trend try to eliminate it. Every now and then is ok, but if you are eating out every day, three times a day, it’s time to cut back!

2. If possible try not to use a car, I know, this sounds impossible. Think about it, gas, insurance, and upkeep on a car can get expensive.

Leave the car behind. Carpool or take advantage of the public transportation system if you can.

3. Credit Cards will seem like an easy way out, but they add up. You don’t want to graduate with more debt then you will already have.

Try to commit to only buying what you can afford in cash. If an emergency arises and you can’t wait, make the purchase. Just remember it will end up costing you more than the price tag.

4. The last tip I have for you is keep your eye out for deals. Secondhand isn’t so bad, buying used textbooks over new, is a great first step.

Student discounts are a plus -- shop where these are offered. Look for sales and buy only what you need, not what you want. Always ask yourself, “Is this really worth the money”?

Budgeting is never fun, but it will save you the uphill climb most are endured with. Make sure you allow for a few frivolous purchases here and there. If you plan the budget with the mindset that adjustments are allowed, you will be on the right path.

Swagurn is a Diggable Planet

Some of you out there in Swag Nation are Social Sharers. Meaning, you find cool stuff on the Internet and share it via your Facebook profile, your Twitter page or a Social Bookmarking site like Digg. The Biggest Loser is Thinning Out!

It's been about a week since we've had the Facebook moderators in place, monitoring the wall, keeping it clean of nonsense and just generally overseeing things.

Run For Her Recap

Hey folks, Team Swag Member Eron here. Thanks to EVERYONE in Swag Nation that took the time to tweet about RunForHer or help raise money for the Cedars-Sinai Women's Cancer Research Institute (WCRI). The event was a tremendous success and collectively raised nearly $750,000!! A very special thank you goes out to all the Swaggernauts who were generous enough to donate and sponsor Team Swag Bucks to raise a total of $635. You've probably seen in the last couple of Twitter Trivia and even a recent Twitter Tuesday that TSG has been taking your suggestions for trivia questions and Phrases That Pays. Well, I thought I'd make it official and let you all know that I love using suggestions from users wherever I can.

So, if you have an idea for a trivia question OR a Twitter Tuesday Phrase That Pays, send it on to TSG and I just might use it. If I do use it, you'll get 10 Swag Bucks. Not too shabby.

This is also great because our community is so creative to begin with, this will just be another outlet for you to really explore your creative sides and share it with thousands and thousands of people.

One way to shake off those Monday blues is to feel important; like you matter and like your voice means something. I can't think of another way to do that, except for maybe voting in a national election or something but those always happen on Tuesdays, than sharing your opinions with Swag Nation via our weekly Polls.
