Welcome Swagbucks Book Club Members! I hope you are enjoying today’s travel-themed Swag Code Travelganza and are looking forward to next weeks Swagbucks Spring Tour ’14 Team Challenge! Let’s keep that cabin fever at bay with today’s Book Club all about travel guides!
But first I want to thank everyone who participated in last week’s discussion and voted on a title for April. The winning book was Let’s Pretend This Never Happened (A Mostly True Memoir) by Jenny Lawson (Kindle Price $7.99)
When Jenny Lawson was little, all she ever wanted was to fit in. That dream was cut short by her fantastically unbalanced father and a morbidly eccentric childhood. In the irreverent Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson’s long-suffering husband and sweet daughter help her uncover the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments—the ones we want to pretend never happened—are the very same moments that make us the people we are today. For every intellectual misfit who thought they were the only ones to think the things that Lawson dares to say out loud, this is a poignant and hysterical look at the dark, disturbing, yet wonderful moments of our lives.
I hope you will join us on Friday, April 25th at 10am PT here in the blog to discuss this title.
Since we are all about travel let’s go on a walkabout and discuss the ins and outs of Travel Guides. Back in the dark ages – before the internet – if you wanted to visit someplace your trip usually began at the book store digging through titles from the likes of Fodor’s, Frommer’s, Let’s Go, Rough Guides and Lonely Planet. And let’s not forget the infamous AAA TripTik with it’s flip map. Each publisher had its niche – bargain hunters, adventurers, youthful travelers – and one could quickly bond with fellow travelers abroad based on which travel guide they sported. But those days are over and now if you are interested in an area you have access to up-to-the-minute information from a variety of sites as well as the opportunity to access local media. And do’t forget all those apps!
For today’s discussion – share your experience with Travel Guides both printed and online. What was your best find thanks to a travel guide? Or do you have a story of a trip gone horribly wrong thanks to a travel guide?
Share your thoughts below and on Monday, April 7th I will pick 3 random people to award with 25 SBs.
Bon Voyage! Adios! Cheerio! Safe Travels!
