Saturday Do-It-Yourself: Snowman Globe!

Posted by on Sat, December 13th, 2014 at 11:00 am

Happy weekend, Swaggernauts! Today’s DIY comes to us from gbestadt, of Hope Mills, NC and looks like a lot of fun!

DIY Snowman Globe

This is an easy peasy project I do with my grandchildren.

Supplies needed:

  • Vase from dollar tree
  • Paints – white, pink, black, orange (I also use the clear glitter type also, to give the snow that sparkle)
  • Sponge (I usually cut it in half and cut a circle that I use dipped in pink to paint the snowman cheeks)
  • Lacquer Spray finish
  • Ribbon, jems/jewels for decoration.

  1. Dip sponge lightly in white paint (that I pour a little on a paper plate). Dab the sponge with white paint around the vase. Do not cover the area solid. You want a snowy effect. Dab black around the top for the snowman’s hat. You want the black to be more solidly covered than you wanted with the white. NEXT, Dab the round sponge into pink paint that you will place on the area which will be the snowman’s cheeks. Allow to dry.
  2. Using orange paint with brush, paint the carrot nose. (I usually take a pencil before hand and lightly draw the face on to guide me as I am painting). Allow to dry
  3. Using black paint with brush, paint several small coal pieces on vase for the mouth, paint button eyes, and outline the orange carrot nose. Allow to dry
  4. Using white paint with brush, 4 white dots on the button eyes to give them the button appearance. Allow to dry
  5. At this point if you want to use the glittery paint to lightly sponge over the snowy parts, it will sparkle just like snow..
  6. Once dry, take vase outside and place on newspaper etc.,and lightly spray painted vase. Once it has dried, you can tie ribbon around the top, and tie into a bow.
  7. Tah Dah! All finished except for dropping a battery powered flickering candle inside.

My grandchildren love to make these with me. One of the pictures is my grandson helping me make several for his family. We do snowmen and snowwomen. The project is super easy and great to do with children. I usually have them do the snow on each vase, and I do the painting of the face. They add the ribbon and other decorations after the lacquer spray has dried. Merry Christmas everyone!

What a great project – thanks for sharing with us! Perfect for the holidays!
