If you haven’t heard about Susan Boyle by now, you either
a) have very limited internet access
I say that because she’s quickly become the hottest internet phenomenon since two “scientists” discovered that Diet Coke and Mentos go really well together. In fact, we recently ran a poll in the blog about Susan and Paul Potts, the winner of the first Britain’s Got Talent competition. If you haven’t checked it out, you should do so now.
But all of this has me thinking about Gary Brolsma. I don’t blame you if you don’t recognize the name. A few years ago he was just your run-of-the-mill teenager from New Jersey. That is, until he decided one day to record himself lip syncing to an obscure Romanian pop song called “Dragostea din tei” (which he mislabelled as Numa Numa). And with that, Gary became the first viral music video star.
Yes, despite my better judgment, and more than one sideways glance from the other members of Team Swag Bucks, I’m choosing “Dragostea din tei” by O-Zone as the Team Swag Bucks Song Of The Day for 4/21. Sure, the song is dated and may have never really been all that good to begin with. But if you’re at all like me, every time you hear it your head bops, a smile forms on your face, and you remember that internet stardom is just one embarrassing moment away.
As part of the Team Swag Bucks Song Of The Day promotion, every time you Snag one of our selected mp3s during the month of April, you are automatically entered to win one of our brand spankin’ new Swag Bucks T-Shirts. Today’s winner is Kelley S., from Columbus Maryland. She snagged a copy of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole and now she’s got a bonus T. Congrats to Kelley, and remember: you could be next!
