I love when I discover multiple uses for regular, everyday household items.  Recently on GOOD.is, I found an article highlighting Seven Surprising Uses For Baking Soda, and I would like to share them with you, because they will definitely come in handy!

Brush your teeth with it – Most conventional toothpastes use sodium lauryl sulfate as their primary ingredient.  This chemical can have harsh effects and also contains a contaminating carcinogen called 1,4-dioxane.  Keep it natural and brush your teeth with baking soda.  It will kill bad breath and help whiten your teeth.

Wash your face with it –  Many people think that when it comes to washing your face, the harsher and rougher the scrub the better.  But this is not necessarily the case.  In fact, you actually need that top layer of skin to keep the bacteria out and the moisture in.  Switch to baking soda.  ”It works great on elbows and feet too, and combined with some raw honey, this DIY face wash is refreshing and soothing—and anti-acne, too.”

Create a DIY deodorant – For an effective homemade deodorant, “mix four tablespoons of baking soda with about ten drops of your favorite essential oil and apply to underarms.”  Keep it in an empty mineral makeup container, and apply as needed with a flat head makeup brush.

Spot-treat acne – Have an unwelcomed visitor?  Make a paste by combining baking soda with water, and apply a small amount to the blemish overnight.  It should dry it up by morning!

Cleanse your hair – If you want to reduce the amount of times per week you are shampooing your hair, “fill a glass with warm water and dissolve about a tablespoon of baking soda into it. Take that to the shower, and after wetting your hair pour the mixture through. Comb it well before rinsing—your hair will feel a little coated and slippery until it’s fully rinsed out.”  This is also a great way to get rid of product build-up on your roots.

Soothe your stomach – Got an upset tummy?  Mix a teaspoon of baking soda into a glass of warm water and drink it down.  ”Its slight alkalinity can can neutralize the acid causing the problem.”

Soak your skin - “Dissolve some [baking soda] into your bath for a soothing and skin-softening experience. The added bonus? You won’t need soap—and sometimes that’s a good thing.

I hope these remedies prove to be useful for you.
