Swagbucks Book Club – Mysterious Haiku

Posted by on Fri, January 18th, 2013 at 10:00 am

Welcome Swagbucks Book Clubbers. I hope you are enjoying Mystery Month and January’s reading selection: And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. In this bestselling thriller ten people, each with something to hide and something to fear, are invited to a lonely mansion on Soldier Island by a host who, surprisingly, fails to appear. On the island they are cut off from everything but each other and the inescapable shadows of their own past lives. One by one, the guests share the darkest secrets of their wicked pasts. And one by one, they die…

Don’t forget you can snag the Kindle version from the swag store for just 799 Swag Bucks.  Join us next Friday, January 25th at 10 am for the discussion of this classic thriller.

And Then There Were None consistently tops the list for favorite mysteries every written.  Until now.  Today, Book Club Swaggernauts, it is your turn to write a mystery.  But not just any mystery, a haiku mystery!  A haiku is a three line poem that follow the 5,7,5 syllable pattern.  Here are four examples to get you in the mood (thanks to Hal from Team Swagbucks for contributing   the last two examples).

A sudden chill blew
a night like this, ominous.
Go at your own risk

The body slumped down
As the blunt knife burrowed deep
with damage done, run

The chill in your bones
Spreading from head to toe
The killer is near.

As Sherlock Holmes said
To his companion Watson,
“Elementary”

Add your mysterious haiku in the comments section below.  On Monday I will randomly award 10 contributors with 25 Swag Bucks each.

Happy Haikuing
