Swagbucks Book Club – Bossypants Discussion

Posted by on Fri, March 30th, 2012 at 10:00 am

Welcome to the weekly meeting of the Swagbucks Book Club.  Today is one of my favorite days as we get to discuss the selection of the month — Bossypants by Tina Fey.

The book for next month is the second in The Hunger Games series: Catching Fire which we will discuss on April 27th.  You can snag Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins in the Swag Store as Kindle version; or you can put those Amazon and Barnes and Noble gift cards to good use.  Also check the Special Offers section for various book club promotions that include Swag Buck rewards.  And finally, there is always the local library that would love your support.

And a quick Thank You to everyone who contributed to last week’s Six-Word Memoir discussion!  The response was amazing and I was thrilled to hook up 60 random posters with 25 Swag Bucks each.  If you missed any check them out, we certainly have some creative contributors to the Book Club!

Don’t fret if you missed your chance at winning 25 Swag Bucks last week because you have another chance today.  On Monday I will be selecting random users who contribute to today’s discussion with 25 Swag Bucks which will go towards Monday’s March Swagness goal.  So even if you aren’t here to contribute when this post first goes live feel free to comment throughout the weekend.  You never know what Monday might bring to your account balance.

You can help select the winners of our other prize, a physical copy of our next book, Catching Fire.  The users responsible for the two comments that receive the most “Likes” will win.  If you see a comment you agree with, believe is well thought-out or piques your interest go ahead and hit that “Like” button.

And with that, lets get on with the discussion of Bossypants.  I found this book to be both educational and inspirational while entertaining.  For example, one of the sections that really resonated with me was The Rules of Improvisation which include:

-”Always agree and say yes” which in real-life terms reminds us to respect what your partner has created and to at least start from an open-minded place.
- Not only to say yes but “Yes, And” which is to say agree and add something of your own.
- “Make Statements” Don’t ask questions all the time and for women especially, don’t speak in apologetic questions.
- “There are no mistakes, only opportunities.”

Do you agree with these Rules?  How can you apply them to your own life?

I will continue to post topics for discussion in the comments section but feel free to add your own.

Thanks,

Becky
