If you’re a guy, I double dog dare you not to cry at the emotional climax of Field of Dreams. All I need to hear is “Dad?” and I start to well up. There are a lot of great baseball movies, but to me Field of Dreams is one of the two best (Bull Durham being the other – Kevin Costner knows his baseball, For Love of the Game notwithstanding).
Based on the novel Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella, Field of Dreams mixes the search for identity with the importance of family and strong relationships with a reverence of and appreciation for our national pastime. Even if you aren’t a baseball fan you can still very easily get wrapped up in this modern masterpiece of storytelling.
