Swagbucks Book Club – Meet the Author: Final Chapter

Posted by on Fri, June 29th, 2012 at 10:00 am

Today is our final installment of our month-long spotlight series of Swaggernaut Authors with R. K. Finnell (swag name: roxan) who will join us to discuss Kickshaw Candies.  I hope you have enjoyed this special month as much as I have.  It has been great to be able to hear first-hand from the authors themselves.  I hope you have also added a few new titles to your Must Read list.

In honor of Summer our next selection is a “beach read”, Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella.  We will discuss this title on Friday, July 27th. The kindle version of the Can You Keep a Secret? is available in the Swag Store or you can use your Amazon Gift Cards and Barnes and Noble Gift Cards, or there is always your local library.

“Things are suddenly starting to look up for the hapless but optimistic Emma Corrigan. She has kept her job at Panther Cola for nearly a year, has the perfect boyfriend and hopes for a promotion to marketing executive should her first opportunity to strut her stuff and land a business deal be successful. Unfortunately, things don’t go quite as planned, and on her unusually turbulent return flight from a disappointing client meeting, in a terrified state, she confesses her innermost secrets to the good-looking stranger sitting beside her. When she shows up at work the next morning, she is horrified to discover that her mystery man is none other than the revered and brilliant Jack Harper, American CEO of Panther Cola, on a weeklong visit to the company’s U.K. branch. Thus begins a series of chaotic, emotionally exhausting and funny episodes that thrust Emma, with her workaholic best friend, Lissy, and their awful flatmate Jemima, into a world of fairy tales, secrets and deceit.”

But today’s discussion is about Kickshaw Candies. The author, roxan, describers herself as a”writer of vivid horror, dreamer of death, talented hater of poetry and a damn good cook” and has been a Swagbucks member for two years.  Please join us in the comments as we discuss this work as well as the writing process and any other questions you may have for roxan.  I will be choosing 10 random comments and hooking up the users with 25 Swag Bucks each so don’t be shy!

“The town of Baile seems to be just a small town with ordinary people until Teagan O’Brien opens an unusual candy shop. Something ancient and buried begins to awaken in the people when they consume his sweets. They remember a life they had long ago left behind becoming their true selves, and a maleficence awakens that had been locked away in forgotten memories. Out of those memories comes the truth of what brought them to the world of humans and the path back to the place they call home. The path to their salvation depends on three of their human-born children, who are thrust into a future of uncertainty as each one discovers the truth behind the people of Baile and the secrets locked within their own bodies and Only these three have the ability to overcome the evil that threatens to corrupt and dominate every living creature, to save not only their kind, but humanity itself. “
