Activity from memorial

I remember sitting in my English class exactly 10 years ago today, on September 11, 2001. I remember my classmate walking into class late with an announcement that would affect history forever: “A plane just hit the twin towers.” At the time, I didn’t realize the severity and gravity of those words – not until I walked out of class. I remember passing people in the hallway, students and teachers alike, dialing their cell phones frantically, huddling together in tears, and gathering together in front of the TV in the cafeteria to watch the horror and tragedy that affected thousands of lives.
I went to school on Long Island in New York, so many of my classmates had friends and family members who worked in New York City, myself included. I remember coming home from school that day and getting a phone call from my dad. ”We still haven’t heard from Alan.” Alan was my cousin who worked in the Twin Towers. We never heard from him.
Today we remember all of the lives that were lost on this tragic day ten years ago. We remember all of the heroes who sacrificed their lives at the mercy of others. We remember the passengers on the plane, the firefighters, the people in the towers. We remember today and we will remember tomorrow.
