September Charity – World Hunger Relief FundPosted by Team Swagbucks on Thu, September 1st, 2011 at 1:00 pm
We’ve witnessed so much destruction in the world this year from the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami to tornado relief in Alabama and most recently the wake of Hurricane Irene. Thanks to amazing Swaggernauts like you we have been able to donate to Japan and Alabama as well as wounded service men and women, animals in need and those suffering from Lupus. To date you have donated more than 3.5 MILLION Swag Bucks to Charity in 2011. Your continued generosity truly makes me proud to work with and for you. I hope you will embrace this month’s charity with the same commitment: World Hunger Relief Fund.
A humanitarian crisis has slowly unfolded in the Horn of Africa. Drought, conflict, and rising food prices have affected more than 13 million people in the region. On July 20th, famine conditions were declared in several southern regions of Somalia. We had originally planned this charity for November but with the deteriorating circumstances the need became more immediate.
The number of people estimated to be in need of various kinds of humanitarian assistance in Somalia is currently 2.4 million people – or 32 % of the population and a 20 % rise over the number in Sept 2010.
Some 16 percent of all children under five are acutely malnourished and four percent are severely malnourished. This means that some 241,000 children are acutely malnourished and 57,000 are severely malnourished. One in seven children are acutely malnourished and one in 25 is severely malnourished.
For as little as 35 Swag Bucks you can feed a child for one day. 10,000,000 SB = $100,000.00 The deadline for donations is Monday October 3rd at 12:00pm PDT. Money will be donated to the World Food Programme: Horn of Africa Crisis. Please click the link to learn more about the crisis or to make a direct donation to help feed the world. We sincerely thank you. - Team Swagbucks |
