Ask The Swag Gal (September 23, 2009)

It’s officially Fall, folks! With the summer air on it’s way out (well… not everywhere), it’s time for those orange and yellow leaves to start falling!

Of course, one thing that doesn’t change with the seasons is the challenge of maintaining healthy and happy personal relationships. That’s something Swaggernaut LifeisReborn from San Francisco, California is learning first hand.

My girlfriend and I have been dating for about 2 months now and she thinks I’m cheating on her. Whats a way to make her stop thinking [that]?

I’ll start by stating the obvious: the best way to convince your girlfriend that you are not cheating on her is by NOT CHEATING ON HER! But since you’re a loyal Swaggernaut, I’ll go ahead and assume that you are being faithful :)

There is no one single, correct answer on how to convince your girlfriend that you are not cheating. It’s up to you to find a way to connect to her based on the individual that she is, and the experiences that you’ve shared. The good news is that there are some tested principles which you can use to earn and maintain her trust. (This also goes for girls maintaining trust in their fellas, too!)

1. Be truthful. Even if it’s the tiniest ounce of a white lie, don’t do it. Something as little as one deliberate half-truth could set your significant other on a path to distrust. So just be honest and communicate with her. Let’s face it, if you can’t even handle that, you probably should not be in a relationship.

2. She comes first. Always make sure she is your biggest priority and make sure she knows it. This even goes for being honest with her. If you’ve done something to mess up, make sure she hears it straight from you first, rather than hearing it from an outside source.

3. If you make a promise, keep it. Saying you’ll do something and following through is the best way to prove your commitment. Be consistent and she will always know and trust that you’re going to be there.

If you are doing these 3 things consistently and she is still having problems, you may need to accept that the issue isn’t with you. There is only so much you can do to prove that you’re trustworthy. After all, amidst the tiny meaningless arguments here and there, relationships are meant to be fun and exciting! So find a girl who trusts you and be a good guy and share the love!

That’s all for this time. Have a question for The Swag Gal? Send it to theswaggal@swagbucks.com. See you next time!
